Big Systems Celebrates New
Ownership With Move, Expansion
New Address, Expanded Square Footage Poises Company for Growth
MENOMONEE FALLS, Wisconsin. (December 2, 2009) – Big Systems, a dealer of wide-format printing systems serving major regional and national corporations, celebrates its first year under new ownership with a new address, added capacity and square footage that positions the company for significant future growth, President and CEO Joe Jones said recently.
Jones purchased Big Systems in late 2008. After taking ownership, he initiated the move to Menomonee Falls, which took place this past November. With the move, the company has increased its space by 60%, adding 4,000 square feet. “This move into a bigger facility is a physical sign that we are ready to grow, and the market is ready to expand along with us,” Jones explained. “Our annual sales are moving up on a major scale, and we are experiencing the kind of growth that made the move necessary. But that’s a good problem to have and we’re more than happy to have it.”
The 16-year-old company, formerly located in Butler, Wisconsin, has a wide offering of digital printing systems and provides the full complement of ink supplies and print materials for a vast range of customers covering industries such as government, education, planning, healthcare, corporate business and retail. Big Systems also handles display, merchandising, sign making, service bureaus and graphic arts applications. “Many customers choose to produce their own signs and other promotional materials in-house, Jones explains. “It’s not just about control of quality and content, however. Usually, dollars spent to purchase print services outside are quickly recouped by bringing a printing system into their own department or facility.”
Big Systems is considered a “value added” dealer because it has created one-stop shopping for customers who are in the market for printing equipment, software, inks, paper and computer-driven systems which allow them to seamlessly create, design and manufacture their own print projects.
“We take all the guesswork out of creating and producing your project in-house,” says John D. Peterman, executive vice president of Big Systems. “We can create a system that’s uniquely appropriate for each customer. From low-cost posters to backlit displays, outdoor banners, trade and exhibit graphics, vehicle markings, Point-of-Sale/Point-of-Purchase merchandising and short-term interchangeable graphics – we have a solution.”
The extensive line of products sold by Big Systems include desktop laser and photo printers, wide-format inkjet, waterproof eco-solvent printers, and UV flatbed printers capable of printing direct to rigid board. “We only work with top quality suppliers,” Peterman adds. “That ensures our customers a quality experience from beginning to end.”
The company’s customer base represents a virtual “Who’s Who” of leaders in various industries. “We have over 870 installations nationwide, including systems for MillerCoors, Ace Hardware, Sears, Kohls, DuPont, Coca-Cola, Harley-Davidson and Nordstrom,” Jones pointed out. “We have used Internet marketing and trade advertising to build upon our existing relationships with clients, and attract new customers. It’s a strategy that has worked very effectively during the past year.”
While Big Systems remain very active in Wisconsin, the dealer has moved into the national market, opening up greater opportunities. “Our growth plan includes expanded territories, major sales increases, potential new employees and eco-friendly relationships with our customers and the community where we do business,” Jones added.
Big Systems is a contributor to Clean River, Clean Falls, an initiative sponsored by the Menomonee Falls community to help prevent storm water pollution. “We are an advocate of protecting and preserving our natural environment, and have made a commitment to emphasize green products,” Peterman says.
To make his point, Peterman mentions an upcoming product launch. “One good example is a new printer from HP we are debuting in January. It features environmentally-responsible, water-based inks that are used in durable sign applications previously dominated by solvent-based inks.”
Peterman adds that many of the printable materials are also recyclable. “Even the printer’s ink cartridges are reclaimed and recycled at no cost to the end user. The printer itself also complies with Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemical Substances (REACH) directives, which restrict the use of hazardous substances in manufacturing electronic equipment. Operation of the printer is also more responsible. In PowerSave mode it consumes less than 17 watts of electricity, and is EnergyStar® qualified.”
Big Systems is a growing distributor of wide-format printing products that serve the printing and promotional needs of businesses of all sizes nationwide. Its training programs, customer service, field service and technical support teams provide the necessary ingredients to get systems up and running quickly and efficiently, and keeping them running effectively. Located in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, Big Systems provides unique solutions to the wide-format display requirements of businesses throughout the country.
